Portal Gallery

01

Project Summary

Blend of strategic thinking and creative flair to craft a portal gallery that resonates and captivates.

Canopy Area A will feature a 10x10 structure dedicated to showcasing artwork from contributing artists specializing in blacklight reactive and visually captivating pieces. These works will be displayed on grid walls, creating a vibrant and textured visual experience.

Extending outward from the sides of the canopy structure(s), a series of evenly spaced metal hoops will form an interactive tunnel that invites guests to pass through and engage with the installation. Each hoop is embedded with dynamic LEDs, allowing event-goers to playfully interact with the lighting as they make their way toward the central exhibit area. Guests will enter through one side of the tunnel and exit through another, creating a fluid, immersive path.

02

Scope

A one-of-a kind immersive experience, blending light, interactivity, and visual art into a walk through environment that engages all the senses. Designed to captivate attendees both day and night, the gallery invites guests into a multi-sensory world of LED light, projection, and artist showcases

03

Safety Outlook

The Portal Gallery is engineered with durability and safety in mind, ensuring it can withstand a wide range of weather conditions without compromising the experience. Each LED hoop is constructed from sturdy metal and outfitted with IP66-rated weatherproof LED strips, capable of enduring heavy rain, wind, and dust. These components were stress-tested during the 2025 Bonnaroo Festival, where the installation remained operational despite event-wide weather cancelations due to storms.

04

Technology Stack

The Lost Lands Portal Gallery will have visually appealing and interactive technology that will help bring the art installment to life. It will consist of programmable LEDs that will be interacted with through Ultrasonic sensors, pads, and controlled by ESP32 microcontrollers. The "Living Wall" will be a projection mapped gridwall using the free Resolume software. The technology being used will be a Epson Ultra 4k Short Throw Projector that will be mounted the the top frame of the canopy and pointed downwards towards a wall of paintings mounted on grid wall. This will allow the art to breathe and come to life.

The ESP32 is a highly efficient and powerful microcontroller, that has bluetooth and wifi integration onboard. This makes it a great microcontroller for IoT tasks and LED control. It has low power consumption allowing it to be powered right off of a battery pack.

05

Implementation

Building

The 2 builders and I will start with the framework setup of the installation. There will be 4 hoops that will lead into a 10x10 Euromax canopy that will then lead back out to another 4. Electrical setup, weather/dirt proofing, and the creation of the gallery. Setting up the interior of the canopy and gallery with the grid walls aligned. Making sure the gallery is safe and of solid structure. Setting up presets for the event and testing the art installment to make sure everything is working.

Breakdown

On the last day, builders will take apart the installment, breaking it down in a way that's easily put up and reusable for future events. Any cleanup from around the installment will also happen during this time.

06

Project Footprint

The projected area needed for this project will be either a 10X30 deep, or 30X30 to allow for an interesting bend in the tunnels. The nature of this project has a flexible, dynamic design that can easily be modified to fit any layout or position to accommodate the needs of your event. We are happy to accommodate our project to fit within public health and safety guidelines.

Hello friend! As both a working artist and small business owner, I’ve spent years creating original paintings designed to captivate and entertain. My work has been featured live at events, where I combine art and performance to engage diverse audiences. These pieces are especially suited for blacklight and projection applications, offering dynamic potential for visual storytelling.

On the technical side, I am a web developer and I’m currently completing a Master’s in Information Technology. I’ve built full-stack web applications and I’m proficient in graphics software. My technical fluency ensures that I can contribute directly to the design, mapping, and installation of LED systems and projection elements.
